Micro rafale et mini tornade a Willsboro le 17/7/12

Salut a tous, j'ai recu cet avis de ma marina hier soir. Priere d'aviser vos amis qui ont des bateaux sur les quais 2 et 3 a Willsboro. Ca a l';air que ca a rentre fort pas a peu pres.Par pure chance, je suis sur le quai 4 mais j'y vais demain voir s'il y a des dommages a Kokopelli. si des membres du froum souhaitent que j'aille voir leurs bateaux, ca me fera plaisir.





We are saddened to inform you that Willsboro Bay Marina was hit by a micro-burst and likely a small tornado around 4:30 pm today (July 17). Wind speed of 83 knots (95 mph) was observed in a sheltered portion of the marina. If anyone has observed or recorded a higher wind speed please let us know. There were no injuries and there was no major damage to any boat. Docks 1, 4 and 5 sustained no significant damage and boats on those docks do not appear to have any damage. We believe that wind speeds could have reached 120 to 130 mph in the hardest hit areas of docks 2 and 3. We observed wind shear with upper level winds from the north and west while simulataneously surface winds were from the south or east.

Anchors were dragged on all docks and some main sections of docks 2 and 3 have been damaged. Dock 2 shifted position significantly closing the fairway between 2 and 3. There was minor damage to some boats on the outer halves of docks 2 and 3. Prompt action by marina members (for which we are very grateful) and marina staff halted and lessened the severity of most damage from boat on boat contact. Several furling genoas opened on dock 2 where wind speeds were obviously the greatest and some of these sails were damaged. Opened sails undoubtedly contributed to movement of and damage to the dock. No damage appears significant enough to end anyone's boating
season. We have relocated some boats from the outer portion of the south side of dock 2 to other docks.

Numerous dinghys and contents, dockboxes, canvas, cushions and flowerpots have been damaged or blown away. As with Tropical Storm Irene and other similar events we cannot devote resources to evaluating this type of damage or informing clients of it. Please check with friends and neighbors at the marina for information about these types of damage.

Tomorrow we will identify boats that have sustained minor gelcoat, toerail, rubrail and pulpit/lifeline damage and contact their owners. No boats sustained major damage.

Due to the dock damage we have disconnected the electrical service to docks 2 and 3 to prevent injury. We recommend that all clients on those docks shut down refrigeration and discard affected food.

We have spare dock sections and extra anchors. Our crew will continue assessing damage tomorrow morning. We will begin restoring anchors to their proper positions and replacing anchors and chains as needed tomorrow. Our crew and workboat and a second hired crew and boat will work diligently on this task until completed and docks will be restored to their proper positions as soon as possible. Spare dock sections will then be deployed to
replace damaged sections and we will simulataneously begin construction of new replacement sections and electrical service will be restored as soon as it is safe to do so.

Mnay clients have generously offered to assist our recovery effort. The highest priority jobs are anchor relocation and replacement and dock section replacement and we have sufficient crew to work on them. The limiting factors are workboat speed and anchor supply - none of which can be aided with extra help. Those who wish to help (and we greatly appreciate this) may assist with the following tasks:
1. Pick up and recover dock boxes, cushions, fenders and gear that have floated or blown away.
2. Contact friends and neighbors on docks 2 and 3 and help them (wth their consent) by shutting down refrigeration, removing food, reporting to them the condition of their boats and removing loose or damaged canvas and genoas.

Recovery work will become the marina crew's focus for the remainder of the boating season. Therefore we may not be able to perform much (if any) discretionary service work on boats.

Our efforts to relocate affected boats were hindered by boat owners who failed to provide the marina with copies of all boat keys. We urge all boat owners who have not already done so to provide the marina with copies of all keys for use in urgent and emergency situations. We also ask those who haven't done so to identify all automobiles with our (free) parking stickers for similar reasons.

C'est un phénomène qui semble se répandre au Lac Champlain. La marina de Treadwell a été atteinte il y a quelques années, ma marina l'a été il y a 3 ans. : Des vents de 85 nds, et des rafales à l'avenant:.100 arbres déracinés, des quais arrachés, mais les mouillages ont tenu bon. Sauf mon pauvre bimini qui a été dépouillé de ses toiles...

Mais quand même, quelle bonne marina ce Wilsborrow, ils communiquent toujours les dangers raisonnables à leur clientèle et réagissent eux lors d'événements.

Hier je surveillais la situation sur les écrans radars mis à notre disposition par les sites météo. J'étais pas inquiet pour Farniente(sauf de me faire rentrer dedans). La situation en temps réel, bien que menaçante, était correcte sauf près des tourbillons de surface de ces immences cellules. Le cisaillement selon l'altitude était très inquiétant lui. Me rappelle plus à quel mois était Treadwell, mais ça correspond-tu au niveau saison?

Vu qu'on est ni Nino ni Nina, je suis très curieux de voir le reste de la saison et je m'interroge sur la progression de la période des ouragans, plus tôt, plus fort???

Himsemb que c'était dans le gros été genre fin juillet début aout. Le plus comique(si on peut trouver ça comique ) c'est que cette micro cel très violente a été détectée par mon baromètre mais que rien ne nous a affecté, alors que nous étions à 6miles au nord.

Vous avez bein raison, c'est a peu pres dans le meme temps de l'annee, si je me rappelle bien.. A suivre de pres ces phenomenes... Faudra etre plus vigilant sur l'eau en ce sens que normalement, quand le vent est sud a 15-20kn, on s'attend pas a ce qu'il vire a l'Ouest a 30kn si vite que ca....
